Osteopathy is a manual therapy that uses safe, gentle techniques. The purpose is to use the bodies natural ability to heal by removing restrictions that cause pain, inflammation, stiffness and other symptoms.
Structure and function are interrelated
Osteopaths have highly developed palpatory skills along with extensive training in assessing and treating the body as a whole. Pain that is felt in one area may be the result of a problem elsewhere.
Every technique is designed to work with the body not on the body. As such it is safe for all ages. There are numerous techniques used including myofascial release, joint mobilization, stretching, muscle energy, ligamentous articulate strain, craniosacral therapy and many more. Appropriate techniques a chosen based on what suits the patient best and will remove the restriction, treat the underlying problem and bring balance to all body systems.
Why osteopathy?
Osteopathy is thorough and effective. It is treating and integrating your body systems and addressing restrictions that are often very long standing. It is non-invasive therapy that adjusts with your body.
The patient usually requires fewer treatments.
Patients are educated in assisting in their own healing process with
hydrotherapy and exercises that can be done at home. Also in preventing the recurrence of the problem or additional ones.
Osteopathy can treat patients who have had little success elsewhere. Patients with extreme pain, sensitivity or conditions that have not been successfully treated elsewhere usually find relief with osteopathy.
